ABSTRACT

Players are characterised by the energy they can devote to a project. Transactional analysis focuses on the origins of this energy, and it is based on the principle that the behaviour of individuals results from two factors: desires and values. The Adult is a part of one’s opinions, that is, of one’s desires and values. The Adult represents the part that one can talk about and express in front of others, that is finally accepted. To allow for the irrational is one of the most revealing aspects of the strategy of the lateral project. The values of individuals are all the unconscious norms and rules which are obeyed unconsciously. Usefulness for an individual is his or her conscious opinions. Usefulness is, in principle rational and therefore negotiable. Of course, the expressed usefulness is in fact desires and norms, but these desires and norms can be expressed and so negotiated.
