ABSTRACT

The development of Mandela's children has occurred within a miraculous period of sweeping political reform and social change. Urbanization, the modernization of family life, the demise of apartheid, and the transfer of political power to the black majority have coalesced in a stunning way within the brief life span of these young children. It is fair to say that these forces have altered the social landscape so fundamentally that it is impossible to predict fully at this time the consequences they will have in the lives of these children and of generations to come.
