ABSTRACT

There’s a new confessional theater we’ll call Oprah-Drama. The Oprah- Drama phenomenon, like Kathryn Harrisons memoir of incest, The Kiss, ranges from Paula Vogel’s highly regarded drama about incest and pedophilia, How I Learned to Drive, to a sweet little musical about a horribly scarred young woman in search of an Oklahoma preacher with healing hands, Violet, to John Patrick Shanley’s Psychopathia Sexualis, which is about the troubled life and times of a sock fetishist.
