ABSTRACT

This description of our wonderful world of technology could be called naive -not in the pejorative sense of the term, to be sure, but in the sense of what comes directly to mind from our everyday experience. Copernicus notwithstanding, we still say the sun comes up in the morning and goes down at night, for example. And this depiction has lost none of its meaningfulness for our everyday lives. Yet to understand certain phenomena we do have to know that the sun does not orbit the earth and that it forms the fixed centre point of the solar system.
