ABSTRACT

By 1945 Josh had become a national name. “One Meat Ball” was on the jukeboxes, the radio, and in a Hollywood film. He was on a major record label, and to many Americans he was, in Pete Seeger’s words, “Mr. Folk Music.” Though Libby Holman had hoped for another tour together, he was now big enough to make his own way. The moment was right for him to start touring as a solo headliner, and he had a new manager whose ambition more than matched his own.
