ABSTRACT

Marian McPartland is greatly admired by all of us who have tried our hand at presenting in front of a microphone. Her National Public Radio show, Piano Jazz, celebrated twenty-five years of continuous broadcasting in 2004, and during its run Marian has interviewed and duetted with just about everyone who is anyone in the world of jazz. Marian McPartland stepped from her car into the lobby of the author hotel in downtown Manhattan, and, as all English folk are prone to do in the middle of the afternoon, we set about finding a decent pot of tea. The Carlo Krahmer sides were made on a subsequent visit back to Britain in 1949. Marian's first discs were made on her 1946 visit, although the three tracks that included Jimmy have not been issued. Marian's pen portrait of Joe Morello in her book All In Good Time paints a picture of a very close musical relationship between them.
