ABSTRACT

Rubin “Rube” Lacy was born in 1901 in Pelahatchie, Mississippi. He started his career in the Jackson, Mississippi, area in 1921, and traveled as an itinerant musician fairly widely through the 1920s. He worked with many Mississippi blues singers, including Tommy Johnson, Charlie McCoy, Son Spand, and Ishman Bracey. His recording career was brief, cutting four unissued sides for Columbia in 1927 and two issued songs for Paramount in 1928. He became a minister in 1932, and recorded some religious songs around 1966. He died in 1972.
