ABSTRACT

This chapter provides general guidance for the installation and operation of gas distribution pipe work and equipment based on current United Kingdom practice; for countries outside the United Kingdom, installations should conform to the current Local Regulations and Standards. The provision of gas supplies in the United Kingdom falls into two main sections. The gas service pipe and the governor/primary meter installation is the responsibility of British Gas pic and will be carried out by the Region concerned or contractors working on its behalf. The installation of internal pipe work from the outlet side of the primary meter and of all appliances is, on the other hand, the responsibility of the customer. In both cases the installations must comply with the current Regulations, British Standards and Codes of Practice, and British Gas Specifications, the principal ones of which are listed in the chapter. It outlines the protection requirements for electrical installations in hazardous areas and for the provision of output telemetry signals.
