ABSTRACT
An appreciation of the centre of many European cities indicates that this process is no longer functioning as efficiently. Substantial areas of land abandoned for many years can often be identified, in addition to the gradual dereliction of whole areas of inner city housing. Whether in the historical time frame such dereliction is momentary or represents some major changes in the factors which influence the development and redevelopment process of cities is yet to be resolved.
