ABSTRACT

Physical exercise represents a major means of realising active health promotion programmes. This applies especially to coronary health, particularly in view of the high incidence of coronary heart disease in industrialised countries (Poole, 1984). Improvement in cardiovascular risk factors has been linked with reduced incidence of heart disease (Haskell, 1991). Such factors include elevated blood pressure, serum lipids, excess adiposity and inactivity.
