ABSTRACT

The three previous chapters outlined our general strategy when approaching the initial stages of design. We now turn to the more specific needs of the three primary interest groups identified in Chapter 1, the spectators, owner/operators and participants (the so-called SOP). Starting with the most important interest group of all, we firmly believe that the best way to design for spectators is to look at the facility from their point of view, tracing their progress from the stadium’s entrance gate, through to the public concourses and on to the viewing areas, highlighting at each stage the issues which affect their comfort, safety and well-being.
