ABSTRACT

Since the beginning of the 1980s the growth in kindergarten architecture has been marked, partly because of previously explored social needs. However, it is also important to recognize the often pioneering activities of groups and individuals in a number of different cities throughout the world, who have been able to employ good architects in the design of pre-school facilities. There is a growing recognition that architecture for pre-school is neither exclusively for care (and therefore relating typologically to the hospital), nor is it wholly educational (relating to the school). Over the past ten years, it can be said that a new synthetic building typology has emerged.
