While this report is concerned with average risk, not maximum risk, it is of interest that hydroelectricity may have the highest risk associated with a single accident (124).
Results of calculations are shown in Table K-6. There are three major sources of risk: construction, operation and maintenance, and dam failures. The largest contribution is from construction. Other sources have either zero or negligible risk.
