ABSTRACT

The purpose of this concluding section is to re-examine, in the light of previous discussion, relationships between religion and society. What were the more constant or enduring aspects of the relationship between religion and society in the Kaveri Delta in the nineteenth century? What was the relationship between religious and social change? How far did social factors and developments stimulate or even inhibit religious change, and in what ways did religious developments affect or impinge upon society in the region?
