ABSTRACT
N OT all Japanese adjectives are inflected, nor, as will be seen from the account given below of the adjective stem,
are inflected adjectives always used in their inflected forms. Inflected adjectives, however, form the largest and most characteristic group of pure Japanese adjectives, and in the present chapter attention is first given to inflected words and their uses, the classes of uninflected words being subsequently treated and compared with them.
