ABSTRACT
Today, there are two categories of leaders on Nauna, traditional leaders and modern leaders, both of whom are called bigmen. Modern leaders are usually elected and are therefore temporary leaders only. During my stay, the modern leaders were people like the Manus National Parliamentary Member, Arnold Marsipal; the Provincial Member, Albert Punjimill; and the Member of Nauna to the Community Government in Panuselu, Johndis Kilepak. Apart from these, there was also the komiti and, more informally, the headmaster and teacher at the community school, the Health Post Orderly, magistrates, peace officers and the clerk.
