ABSTRACT

PADM A SAMBHAVA (Guru Rimpoche) A Tantric mystic and the first famous Buddhist monk to come to Tibet from India (Udyana, Kashmir). He arrived in 747 at the invitation of King Trisong Detsen, and is renowned as one of the founders of Tibetan Buddhism. He assisted in the building of the first Tibetan monastery at Samye (775-787), and is associated with the founding of the Nyingmapa Order.
