ABSTRACT

The modern economy of Abkhazia essentially took shape during the period when Abkhazia was part of the USSR. Those spheres of the economy for which the most favourable economic and climatic prerequisites existed enjoyed priority of development; these were primarily subtropical agriculture, the processing industry intimately linked to it, the health-resorts as well as the associated infrastructure and services.
