ABSTRACT

As another practical genius of his time, Arghun Aqa was the person who shaped Greater Iran the most in the middle period of Mongol rule. He had his finger on the pulse of every major event for the next thirty-two years because he combined military, financial and, above all, political acumen. His administrative decisions were fundamental for long-term development, but equally his policies were flexible enough to meet immediate and transient situations. Mongol power in Greater Iran cannot be understood without appreciating his immense role in establishing it.
