ABSTRACT

H aving travelled about 66km across the frozen Arctic wastes, Nikolai was glad he was approaching the tent where he would be visiting friends and spending the night. Made of reindeer skins, the tent always had a fire burning inside to keep the herders warm, although by 5am, when the fire had burned low as the herders slept, the winter cold could be felt even through the thick sleeping bags of reindeer fur and whatever other clothes were being worn.
