ABSTRACT
I t is Friday lunchtime. At a small mosque in Yekaterinburg forty-two men gather for prayer. In a separate house behind the mosque, about a dozen women pray separately but through a loudspeaker on the wall of the room where they meet they can hear what is going on in the main mosque.
