ABSTRACT
While the Ash 'arites asserted that one cannot be a real Muslim unless one understands the basis of Islam, the Māturidis in Central Asia were saying that the actual Islam of the common Turks was good Islam whether the Turks had any rational knowledge of their religion or not.
