ABSTRACT

Muslims throughout the world must cultivate a life-style which embodies the doctrine of Islam. The Islamic ideational system demands that its religious doctrines regulate daily conduct by means of which God, or Allah, is worshipped as the sole divinity. The Islamic doctrine is also called the law of shari‘a, meaning ‘the road leading to the source of water’. ‘The road to Allah’s Commandments’ can be divided into two parts: one speaks of religious rites and obligations; the other defines the taboos and conduct which relate to Muslim social and legal life. Both are held by Muslims to be a perfect reflection of God’s will and divine creation. Muslims can only hope to please God by adhering to, and obeying, God’s commands.
