ABSTRACT

It is well known that the Nyāya system admits four means of valid knowledge: Perception, Inference, Comparison and Word. K.M.D.R. treat about the true nature and scope of these means of valid knowledge in detail and in depth. What follows is a connected presentation of the basic ideas found in K.M.D.R. on Inference (anumāna), in ordinary language, without making use of Nyāya tehnical terms as far as possible. A careful study of this section will enable the reader to follow more easily the technical discussions found in the translation and in the commentary.
