ABSTRACT

We cannot escape the effects of change because today’s mathematics lessons form a stage in an evolutionary development. Therefore, to put the present state of mathematics education in the right perspective, we need to know something of the historical stages through which it has passed. These stages, which have taken place within the national education system, are tabulated in figure 2.1.
