Fur ther I am not t o wade in the foord of this difcourfe, becaufe it was my purpofe to fatisfie your e x p e d i t i o n with a f h o r t t reatife (mof t learned Conrade) no twear i fome f o r me t o write, nor tedious for you to perufe. A m o n g o ther things which you have received at my hands he re to - fo re , I remember tha t I wrote a feveral defcr ipt ion of the Getulian D o g , becaufe there are but a few of t hem, and therefore very feldom feen. As touching Dogs of o ther kmdes you your felf have taken earneft pain in writ ing of them both lively, learnedly, and largely. But becaufe we have drawn this libel more a t length then the fo rmer which I fent you (and yet briefer then the nature of the t h i n g might well bear ) regarding your moft earneft and neceffary ftudies 5 I will conclude, making a rehearfal notwithf tanding ( fo r memory fake) of certain fpccialities contained in the whole body of this my breviary. And becaufe you part ic ipate principal pleafure in the knowledge o f the comm o n and ufuai names of D o g s (as I gather by the courfe of your letters) I fuppofe it not tamifs t o deliver u n t o you a f h o r t table containing as well the Latine as the Englifh names,and t o render a rea - fon o f every particular appellat ion, t o the intent that no fcruple may remain in this point , but tha t every th ing may be fifted to the bare bo t tom.
