ABSTRACT
In the course of the morning of the 4th, the Alburkah was hove off the shoal, and at 9 a. m. got under weigh. In about half an hour we passed a most delightful spot of ground, which I named Frenchwood. Its elevation is about three hundred and fifty feet ; and it lies on the right, or northern, bank of the Tchadda, and its extent is about two miles. It would be a very eligible situation for building upon, and seems well adapted for the position of a fort. It appeared to be the most elevated spot of any on the bank of the river for one hundred miles up. We soon after passed a town named Obwah. A tornado came on accompanied with heavy rain. At 11 a. m. we anchored abreast of a small village named Obofoh.
