The Evolution of the Cuban Economy during the Revolutionary Period In every assessment of the possible scenarios for a renewal of relations between Cuba and the United States, there is an element that cannot be overlooked: Cuba’s economic progress during the last 30 years. Bear­ ing in mind the significant changes that the revolutionary process has promoted in Cuban society, it is obvious that the pattern of economic relations that existed between Cuba and the United States before 1959, and which were abruptedly severed with the implementation of the economic blockade against Cuba, cannot serve as a model for any fu­ ture relations, given that pattern’s nature, structure and limited reach. The main objective of this article is to explore the potential for renewed economic links and to suggest a suitable scenario for their implementa­ tion.
