ABSTRACT

WITH Aaron’s departure organization of the work fell to Absalom, and Sarah took an active part. They operated in the north and Naaman Belkind and Yosef Lishansky in the south. Absalom, Sarah and Yosef aimed at rousing an anti-Turk movement in the Yishuv. They were convinced that Aaron would not fail to persuade the British to send them arms and money to organize a Jewish rebellion to synchronize with an Allied invasion of the country—preferably by sea, for that was the speediest, and Aaron was going to press for that as well. Absalom hoped eventually to bring in all the active elements in the Yishuv. The Jews themselves must fight for their freedom, not receive it at the hands of others.
