ABSTRACT
M Ystery Was a key element in the story though for many Liberians it is not mysterious when something inexplicable happens, because explanation is not the same as truth. Explanation is really justification, and if the justification for something is based on a lie its value as an explanation does not diminish. Much of what happened was caused by people lying. Lying, or the accusation of it, is one of the most potent forces in Liberia, and the purpose of politics is to weave tales which will allow people to prevent the exposure of their lies.
