ABSTRACT

Western readers interested in the history of the Second World War, as well as the intelligence services of western countries, particularly those of the US and Great Britain, should find the careers and fates of three Red Army officers particularly fascinating. These men were Major-Generals M. B. Salikhov, B. S. Rikhter, and M. M. Shapovalov. The fate of these generals is interesting because they were among the first who were reported missing in action during the chaotic initial period of the Great Patriotic War. More interesting still, it is entirely possible that, after the war, these generals may have relocated to the United States under assumed names. Given their military record, it is also likely that the all-powerful KGB, for its own reasons, was extremely interested in their fate during the entire postwar period.
