This period of Buthelezi’s life began auspiciously enough. In January 1965, he was the best man at a ‘white’ wedding, the marriage of Neil Alcock, the founder of Kupugani, a scheme to provide food to malnourished people in rural areas. The Church Agricultural Projects, an ecumenical body that assisted people in rural areas with farming projects, was connected to Kupugani.
