ABSTRACT

This chapter guides the users how to formulae by using the tool of Excel. Formulae are instructions to Excel to operate on the numbers that users have already entered. They inform the computer that it is an instruction instead of a number or text by putting an equal's sign in front of the instruction. Many instructions are in the form of equations. Formulae are constructed using operators, and these will be used extensively. Operators take precedence according to the normal conventions of mathematics Boolean first, exponentiation next, then multiplication and division, and finally addition and subtraction. Relative cell referencing allows the users to apply the same formula to different cells in the worksheet without rewriting it. It suggests noting the users that when a formula is entered in a cell and the Return key is pressed, the formula appears in the formula bar and the result in the cell.
