ABSTRACT

Excel contains a set of standard functions which can be found in Menu Insert Function. However it allows users to write their own formulae to carry out functions, and this chapter shows how to construct functions with more examples. In mathematics, a function may be thought of as a black box into which a number or numbers are put, and out of which comes another number. There are nearly 100 financial functions, and they are designed primarily for the American investment market where methods, characteristics and terminology are different from the British system. There are two lists: Category of Function on the left and Name of Function on the right. By clicking on the category in the left list, the relevant functions under that heading will appear on the right, and by clicking on a function on the right and a description and the syntax for that function will appear at the bottom of the dialog box.
