ABSTRACT

This chapter explains how to protect one's workbook and setting passwords. Protection works in two stages. Individual cells and objects including charts and pictures are marked as locked by default. However locking has no effect unless the locked items are subsequently protected. When one protects the worksheet any cells and objects which are not unlocked will be protected and cannot be changed. This prevents unauthorised person opening it. One can lock or unlock single cells or groups of cells, individual objects, specified rows or columns, whole worksheets or the entire workbook. As before, to prevent others from removing workbook protection, type a password, click OK, and then retype the password in the Confirm Password dialog box. Passwords are case sensitive, check that the Caps Lock key is not on. The last named is additional to the password protection discussed above which prevents any unauthorised person from opening the workbook at all.
