ABSTRACT

Learning contract is a tool for planning learning, the exact form it takes will depend upon a number of factors, such as: the type of course in which it is being developed, the stage or section of the course being undertaken. A standard learning contract addresses and combines knowledge objectives with a practical objective to be implemented outside the course. Two interesting points about graded contract for a clinical experience program version are that the written contract is not compulsory if a student prefers a more directed placement and that the contract is undertaken in conjunction with a personal diary in which experiences and feelings are recorded to discuss with the supervisor at regular times during the placement. Three-way learning contract is the provision it makes for recording the details of the support the organization will offer in terms of resources for learning and the role of the mentor, and additional support can be expected from the academic institution.
