ABSTRACT

Higher education favours the reaction sheet above all other forms of evaluation. This chapter follows on from that broad overview by offering a snapshot of some examples of the evaluation of training and development from within higher education. Some respondents focused solely on centrally driven activities, some focused mainly on classroom-based activities, all were asked similar questions on reaction, learning, and application of learning, impact and perceived value. Buckinghamshire College of higher education strategic plan emphasises 'linked regional provision'. The university is also exploring the use of E-mail for evaluation purposes. It describes the quality assurance mechanism for centrally provided training and development programmes. The mechanism, approved by the training advisory group (TAG), for establishing the quality of training provided under the Institution-wide Training and Development Programme (ITDP). The university conducts extensive evaluations of specific training and development activities, such as its postgraduate certificate in learning and teaching in higher education.
