ABSTRACT

One of the essential issues of any research project is knowing how to plan it. It is very important to have a perceived route through the territory. Obviously one cannot be completely clear about where the research will go, for often issues will arise that could not possibly have been foreseen at the beginning of the research process. It is helpful to look at methodology as a decision-making process that is predicated upon sets of background assumptions or paradigms. A paradigm is a theoretical model within which the research is being conducted, and organizes the researcher's view of reality. Methodologies can be classified in various ways. Some writers distinguish between qualitative and quantitative methodologies reflecting the distinction between the various paradigms. The methodological approach of ethnography can be difficult for researchers used to a more objective scientific method of research.
