ABSTRACT

Below is a summary of the five key themes and their sub-themes discussed in this chapter. They try to encapsulate the philosophy, vision and the actions to be taken to make lifelong learning a reality in the 21st century. Because many of them have pointed to the idea of a learning community as the engine of the learning society arguing that the axiom ‘think globally, act locally’ is the real key to making lifelong learning work, part 2 of this book discusses just how such a community – a city, a town or a region – can change its thinking to implement lifelong learning principles in all sectors of activity.
