ABSTRACT
The radio direction finder (DF) was one of the earliest electronic navigational aids which was required to be carried. Although somewhat unpopular because of poor positional accuracy, the equipment was comparatively cheap, simple in concept, and well provided with shore-based transmitting stations worldwide. The system has remained virtually unchanged since its inception.
