ABSTRACT

DSC is a method of automatically alerting ship or shore stations, individually or collectively, by dialling a 9-digit numerical code (MMSI station ID — see para 2.2) into the DSC controller, which is permanently connected to the ship's main transceiver. The DSC controller enables digitally coded signals to be transmitted on specific frequencies. A special keypad allows for automatic transmission of Distress Alert and other keypads give access to selections from various menus.
