ABSTRACT

To some, a Power Amplifier is any device which takes a low power, low voltage audio signal, amplifies it and outputs the result into a loudspeaker. This is, perhaps the most common application of the Power Amplifier, but it is by no means the only one. For example, many transducers need special power amplifiers to drive them: such as

a.c. motor drives

r.f. aerial transmitters

d.c. motor drives

c.r.t scan coils

solenoids

print heads

servo mechanisms

This chapter looks into the methods used by designers of electronic circuits to drive power into a load.
