ABSTRACT

The impending retirement of large numbers of school administrators, who will have to be replaced during the remaining years of this century, focusses attention on selection and recruitment issues and the extra demands this will place on already scarce educational resources. The replacement of experienced superintendents and senior central office executives, together with the significance of their roles for improving standards of excellence in education, provides imperatives for upgrading methods of administrator selection and preparation for leadership roles within the profession.
