In the section on depression, I discussed the thinking or cognitive model as one of the factors in depression. This is much the same in anger. Just as changing how a depressed young person thinks about himself or herself, the world, and the future can reduce or relieve depression, so too can cognitive changes help the angry child. Recall that I suggested it is not so much the question of, "This happened and I felt that way" but instead it is, "This happened, I thought about it, and then I felt that way." The following are some specific examples of how this works.
