ABSTRACT

I think it may be similar to a lot of things that have happened in the last two hundred years and in this century in that our knowledge outstrips our skill level. We are able to make bicycles, and it took a long time before people learned how to ride and use them correctly. Then came the automobile. The first twenty years of popular automobile use were really risky adventures. Just going out for a two- or three-hour drive could end up with a two- or three-day set of blowouts, gasoline leaking, gasoline with water in it, all of these things. The understanding of what would make it work smoothly was not there.
