ABSTRACT

In Chapters 3 and 4, we looked at the semantic properties of entities and events. The former were viewed as relatively atemporal individuals in conceptual space, typically, but not necessarily, taking the form of nouns. We also observed that events, temporally sensitive relations in conceptual space, included states, processes, acts, and conditions of existence, again typically, but not necessarily, surfacing as verbs. In this chapter we ask the following questions: How do entities carry out events? What roles do entities play in events?
