Before you read this chapter, think about these imponderables: (1) Where did language come from? Who invented it? Why was it created? (2) Do animals talk, and, do pets comprehend English, or any other language? Of course, if you have a pet animal, we know it's extremely smart: Think about the other pets you've observed. (3) Finally, what are some significant differences between animal signaling systems and human language?
