ABSTRACT

Students may need particular guidance in determining the appropriate information to include in the news conference invitation. The author has found that students often are inclined to present a summary of the announcement rather than an invitation, thereby unwittingly turning the invitation into a kind of news release that allows competitive reporters to scoop the news conference and deprives the organization of the opportunity to present the information according to its own strategic plan. Instructors should guide student toward providing information about the nature of the topic without giving substantive details that would obviate the need for a news conference.
