ABSTRACT

The increasing use of computers in educational operations has created the need for rapid movement of data from one location to another. In its broadest sense, data can be communicated by physical transportation—messengers, trucks, or airplanes—or by electrical means—input and output devices, electrical transmission links, and associated switching equipment. In many cases, the best way to get information from one place to another is by mail; this method is usually the most economical. However, when rapid transmission of information is important, electronic methods are required.
