ABSTRACT

The largest number of religious groups in the United States are Christian, and the larger Christian bodies (Baptist, Catholic, Congregational, Episcopal, Methodist, Lutheran, Orthodox, Presbyterian, and Reformed) essentially represent mainstream religion in America. Included below are those church bodies which fall within the major traditional denominational families of Christianity. They share a broad agreement on basic doctrines, including the authority of the Bible, though each group might dissent on one or two particular issues. Their practices vary widely, especially in worship style and organization.
